About the Designer

Hello and welcome to my site! My name is Rachel Crosslin. I am an architecture student and amateur photographer. As a soon to be graduate, I have developed a portfolio including my undergraduate and master's work. I graduated in the spring of 2019 from the University of Kentucky College of Design and am on track to graduate studies from the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design. My main goal after obtaining a Master's in Architecture is to become a licensed architect and to bring my passion and willingness to learn on a professional level. I am currently looking for job opportunities in order to not only learn and gain experience in the field but also ultimately work towards this goal!

While studying abroad in the Netherlands the summer of 2018, I attended quite a few lectures that were focused on the idea of the circular economy, a phrase I had not yet been exposed to. I became interested in how the idea relates to design. I would like to continue studying how designs can have positive impacts and how architecture can relate to the circular economy. I want my professional work to be exemplary in regards to reuse, so working at a firm that is conscious of these efforts would be ideal.

Another value that I wish to further as an architect is helping serve others through design. In my career, I wish to make humanitarian architecture. I believe that designers have a truly unparalleled opportunity to serve others through their own designs, and currently I am studying the impact that architects can have on foreign conflicts with my thesis project. I am definitely interested in working for a firm that has also a commitment to giving back to others as they are able to.

My photography work is inspired primarily by architectural works, landscapes, and the built environment. These works are a compilation of travel experiences, moments of interest, and inspirational places. I have had the opportunity to travel to many locations already in my 23 years of living (25 states in the US, 17 countries). However, I know that visiting these places is merely the tip of the iceberg. I hope to never stop exploring as much of the world as I can. I hope to never stop capturing these experiences that have, little by little, shaped my perspective. Lastly, I hope to inspire others to go out and explore. Go buy a plane, train, or bus ticket to a new city. Walk around without a map or GPS for a few hours and see what you can find. That is essentially my method for capturing my work. Enjoy.
